How to choose coil tarps for your loads

A coil tarp is shaped around the coil. Record the coil diameter, width and eye orientation, then confirm the finished shape on a dimension sheet. A published cube size is a reference, not a flat rectangle to size by the drape formula.

Build a coil tarp fabric and construction specification and include your coil dimensions in the request. For mixed loads, compare steel, lumber and coil tarp shapes.

What measurements make a coil tarp request usable?

Send the outside diameter, the width across the coil and its orientation on the trailer. A fitted cover must match the loaded shape. A cube label cannot tell a supplier which dimension is which, whether packaging projects beyond the coil, or where openings are needed. Label a sketch instead of sending three unlabeled numbers.

Please confirm the finished pattern on a drawing.” These numbers are example inputs, not a verified fit for either published cube format.

For recurring fleet work, provide the smallest and largest coil envelopes you intend to cover. Ask whether one pattern covers the range or separate patterns are needed. Do not turn the largest diameter into a universal size while leaving the width and orientation unresolved. A covered envelope is a purchasing input, not a loading instruction.

Can I just use a steel tarp on a coil?

A flat tarp over a round coil leaves loose fabric that beats in the wind and wears through at the edges. A coil tarp is shaped for the eye and the curve. If you haul coils regularly, the shaped tarp is the one that lasts; the quote states both options if your loads are mixed.
