Steel tarps, hardware counted before they ship

In short. A steel tarp lives or dies by its hardware: rows of D-rings and grommets that either hold or tear out of bare fabric. A published 16x27 reference carries 76 D-rings and 46 grommets. We write the count on the order, and reception is a count, not an impression.

What must be on the written spec

  • Fabric weight (the 16 oz vs 18 oz trap)
  • Drop height
  • Grommet density
  • D-ring rows and spacing
  • Hardware on sewn webbing, never bare fabric
  • Panel seams
Where the pull lands: bare fabric against sewn webbingTwo constructions of the same anchor point. In the first, a grommet is set straight into the tarp fabric and the pull concentrates on the cloth around it. In the second, the ring is fixed to a webbing band sewn across the tarp, and the pull is carried by the webbing instead of the cloth. Grommet in bare fabric the pull lands on the cloth tears out of the cloth D-ring on sewn webbing the pull lands on the webbing the webbing carries it
A published US reference for a 16x27 steel tarp counts 76 D-rings and 46 grommets. The number matters less than where each one is fixed: hardware set into bare fabric is the tear-out that practitioner threads describe. The count and the construction both go on the order, and reception is a count, not an impression.

Factories cut custom dimensions to order. We quote only against a written dimension sheet: flat size, drop, flap placement. A missing dimension gets asked, never filled in.

Questions fleets actually ask

How many D-rings and grommets should a steel tarp carry?

There is no single right number, which is exactly why it goes on the order. A published US reference for a 16x27 steel tarp counts 76 D-rings and 46 grommets. Whatever count you approve on the quote is the count checked at reception.

What makes hardware tear out?

Hardware attached to bare fabric instead of sewn webbing. The construction rule we require in writing: high-frequency welded seams, and every D-ring and grommet on sewn webbing. Practitioner threads report ring failure as the most common way a steel tarp dies early.

Why is a steel tarp's drop shorter than a lumber tarp's?

Steel loads ride lower than packaged lumber, so the published steel format carries a 4 ft drop where lumber formats carry 6 ft flaps. If your loads are mixed, say so on the quote: the drop is a written line, not a default.
